Initial ideas

Initial ideas

After doing dome research into regional magazines I have decided the best genres to do would be lifestyle. This genre explores everything that happens in an entire region. This is ideal because it should appeal to everybody, which means that my target audience for this magazine should be fairly wide.

I have decided that I will probably use a very simple layout and colour scheme to fit in with the codes and conventions set by other regional magazines. The layout should appeal to a wide target audience because the genre itself should also appeal to a wide audience.

As for content for the magazine, there is no real limit to what I can include. I can include things like food and drink, leisure, things to do, fashion and upcoming events in the region I am basing my magazine on which is Cornwall.

In terms of content to include I will include local events, leisure activities to do in Cornwall including sports. I think I may include stories about local food and drink with events such as the Newquay fish festival or the Padstow Oyster festival. I could also include music events such as Boardmasters or the Looe Music festival. I can also include local attraction and hertitage sites such as Polzeath beach or tintagel castle.

Here are a couple of magazines that I like the style of and ones I may base my magazine around:

My target audience for this magazine consists of young male and females aged between 15-20 years old. this will mean that I will have to target it to a young audience of a similar age range to myself. They will also belong in social group C1-E which means they will be in the lower to lower middle classes. They will also be of a white/caucasian ethnicity and heterosexual. This will affect the way in which I appeal to my target audience.
